Vedantu and Space2Grow set benchmarks with advanced Online Child Safety Policy

Online child safety report and internal assessment roadmap to be launched

According to UNICEF, globally, 33% of children have access to the internet on their devices at home. Over the last decade, better accessibility and affordability of online learning have elevated the way children learn. The vulnerability and safety of children who are consuming online content is an immediate reality that we need to address. Providing a safe ecosystem for children to learn online has become an increasing concern for parents, teachers and everyone alike. It is imperative for all EdTech organizations to align to safety norms and declare themselves as “Child Safe, Online”.  Creating a secure online space is most definitely the need of the hour, not only for EdTech, but for any and every platform that children today use.

Vedantu, a pioneer in LIVE online learning, was the first to launch a child safety initiative in 2020 to create a robust prevention and redressal mechanism across all the online and offline touch points, making online education safe for every child. To further uphold this initiative, Vedantu, along with Space2Grow, a leading social impact consulting firm, launched the Online Child Safety Benchmarking Framework, proposing internal standards and criteria for EdTech firms and other institutions in the e-learning space. This will ensure that services to all stakeholders, especially children, are safe and standardized.

Vedantu celebrated child safety week which culminated into a multi-stakeholder event on 14th Nov 2022 to discuss solutions that have been implemented, the experiences of Vedantu’s students and teachers, and finally, the way forward for EdTech companies with respect to online child safety. Apart from the two organizations, the meeting was attended by the NCPCR Chairperson and Omidyar Network India representatives. The meeting also included a release of Vedantu and Space2Grow’s Online Child Safety Benchmarking and Internal Assessment Report 2022 – the first of its kind in the EdTech sector, on the performance of online safety standards.

About the child safety benchmarking report 2021:

The proposed framework has four major indicators for internal assessment of EdTech companies and includes factors such as:

  1. Accountability: Focuses on the responsibility and accountability that the organization undertakes for child protection with commitment from the senior level management.
  2. Reporting and Redressal: Evaluates the presence of the structure of reporting and redressal for child abuse cases and service level agreements.
  3. Privacy & Data Handling: Assesses the process around handling of personal information, responsiveness of the information owners, and the ease to access personal information.
  4. Digital risks & harms: Focuses on the presence of relevant infrastructure to minimize the risk of cyberbullying and cyber abuse on the online platform, and gauges how responsive the platform is to take action.

The assessment involves benchmarking against the S2G POCSO Assessment Score, includes representation from each department, and a detailed survey with the key stakeholders – children, parents, teachers and sales agents. The parameters were reviewed against each pillar (which were identified by S2G while setting benchmarking standards as essential indicators of online safety of children). The methodology used for interaction included:

  • Focus Group Discussions (FGDs)
  • Survey through questionnaires
  • Discussions with the child safety team on questions that define each pillar along with supporting documents for achieving child safety

The pillar assessment included reviewing the performance of Vedantu across 32 key metrics that define safety of children in digital spaces across the four pillars, in all, including awareness, efficacy and reporting redressal parameters.

NMIMS’ School of Design achieved a 100% placement record for the second time in a row, wherein the students got placed in top companies. Walmart Global Technology Services India Private Ltd was among the new recruiters and offered a package of Rs. 20, 27,100 for the post of Associate Designer.

Microsoft and LinkedIn engage 7.3 million learners in India through Skills for Jobs program, to help 10 million people learn digital skills

Will provide free access to 350 courses, six new Career Essentials Certificates, and 50,000 LinkedIn Learning Scholarships

Microsoft and LinkedIn announced the next step in the Skills for Jobs program, providing free access to 350 courses and six new Career Essentials Certificates for six of the most in-demand jobs in the digital economy. Microsoft and LinkedIn will also be offering 50,000 LinkedIn Learning scholarships to help people get ahead in their skilling journey. By 2025, Microsoft will help train and certify 10 million people with skills for in demand jobs. Today’s launch builds on the Global Skills Initiative, which helped 80 million jobseekers around the world access digital skilling resources.

To date, Microsoft has engaged 14 million learners in Asia via LinkedIn, Microsoft Learn and non-profit skilling efforts. Of this, 7.3 million learners were from India. The top six LinkedIn Learning Pathways in India were: Critical Soft Skills, Software Developer, Data Analyst, Financial Analyst, Project Manager, and Customer Service Specialist.

Using data from LinkedIn and the Burning Glass Institute, Microsoft analyzed job listings to determine six of the roles in greatest demand for the program: Administrative Professional, Project Manager, Business Analyst, Systems Administrator, Software Developer or Data Analyst. The new courses and certificates will be offered in seven languages, English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese. This expansion builds on Microsoft’s commitment to supporting inclusive economic opportunity so learners around the world have equitable access to the skills, technology, and opportunity needed to succeed in a digitizing economy.

The new Career Essentials Certificates are designed to help learners bridge the gap from basic digital literacy to more advanced technical skills training and gain certifications that will be valuable to securing employment. Once a learning pathway is completed, learners will receive a LinkedIn badge to denote their certificate and indicate fluency in the skillset to employers.

All courses are available on LinkedIn at opportunity.linkedin.com. In addition, Microsoft-developed courses are also available on Microsoft Community Training (MCT) and in downloadable format for use on other Learning Management Systems (LMS) for nonprofit partners.

‘Push Sports’ students features prominently in Delhi U16 Selection Squad

Push Sports added another feather to its cap as it bagged three slots in the newly announced Under 16 Cricket Squad by Delhi. Sarthak Ray has been appointed the Vice Captain of the squad and he is joined by fellow PUSHERS Anindo Naharay and Harshvardhan Phogat among the 26 names announced by Delhi. The young cricketers will be representing Delhi U16 in the upcoming Vijay Merchant Trophy.

Puru Singh, Founder of Push Sports and former Delhi State Player said. “It is a moment of immense pride for us. While we coach and train the kids, their achievements show the result of their hard work and talent. Delhi U16 is a prestigious placement with a lot of competition for each of the slots.
